Christian Service
As a Catholic School in the Salesian tradition, Bishop Ireton is committed to preaching and modeling the Church’s mandate that service rooted in justice is a constitutive element in teaching the Gospel.
Students will be challenged to encounter Christ by serving the poor, dispossessed, and marginalized. The Bishop Ireton Community Service requirement stems from our belief that our students should share their talents eagerly for the betterment of society.
The program is designed to provide service experiences that increase in depth and intensity as the student matures. Every student is required to complete 60 hours of Community Service (15 hours per academic year) prior to graduation from Bishop Ireton High School over the four-year course of study.

ALIVE!
Students help with food distribution and organizing bags, preparing food for events, passing out materials to runners at annual 5k, food bank distribution, and delivering furniture.

Catholic Charities
Catholic Charities is the charitable arm of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington and serves all those in need who live within the Diocese. Students can volunteer through food pantries, clothing and item drives, tutoring and more.

Christ House
Students assist with food preparation, serve food, and clean-up.

Community Lodgings
Students clean houses for the less fortunate, volunteer at the after school program with elementary school kids, and setup and run a Christmas party.
The Adopt-A-Family advisory Christmas project assists families at Community Lodgings.

Head Start (Greater Mount Vernon Community)
Students assist teachers with early childhood education and children with disabilities (0-5 years of age). -
HOPE in Northern Virginia, Inc.
Students sort maternity and baby clothes, clean cribs for clients, help clients when necessary. -
Little Sisters of the Poor
Students serve and prepare meals and clean nursing home.

Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation
Students collect candy and deliver it to cancer patients at local hospitals and cancer wards. The Bishop Ireton Charity Through Medicine club works to provide service projects and donations to the Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation.

Students help with activities, assist with meal services, and spend time with residents.
